Change Blocker 6: Building the Team for the Hill. Not for the Mountain!
January 31th, 2024 | From our CEO
In Innovisor, we deliver change analytics that results in concrete action plans.
We tell you to WHO to work with for greatest impact on WHAT (and also what not!), WHEN, and WHY as well as how to MEASURE that you make progress.
Repeating the Same Question
Very concrete, very actionable… still when we get to the point of delivering the action plan and we repeat the question from throughout our engagement:
“Who in your change team will move this forward?”
Then people start to look at their phone, look for birds outside of the window, or even break-up from the meeting with the comment: “I need to leave, I have a new meeting starting in 5 minutes.”
This is one of those places, where change repeatedly fails. What we in Innovisor call the Six Change Blockers.
Plan for the Mountain
Better practice is planning for the mountain – not for the hill.
Change is an ongoing process, but often organizations fail to realize the need for a team to ensure and facilitate the continuous sustainment of the change program to get to the top of the mountain.
75% Only Get to the Top of the Hill
So, dear leaders,
Make sure your team stays in shape, so it can deliver on the change promise. It sounds simple, but 75% of change programs do not have a team that is set up for success over time.
This includes:
- The mandate
- The team members
- Their continued resource allocation
- The leadership attention (see change blocker 5)
- The continued alignment with strategic priorities
- The consistency and discipline in process, progress, and decisions
Remember if you do not get to the top of the mountain most – OR ALL – of your investment in the change will be lost.
