Change Blocker 4: For Successful Change Commitment Beats Engagement
January 29th, 2024 | From our CEO
Measuring engagement is a multi-billion industry with technology companies offering engagement surveys of varying frequencies and lengths. But if you want to succeed with change tracking employee engagement is not doing it for you.
You need employee commitment. Why?
Engaged employees are:
- Actively involved
- Enthusiastic about their work
Sounds good, right?
Committed employees, however, go a step further. They are the above AND they:
- Demonstrate dedication to the organization’s long-term goals
- Exhibit higher levels of loyalty
- Are more likely to persevere through change challenges
It does sound better to me… Especially perseverance makes a major difference to successful change.
Lack of Commitment is a Change Blocker
In our work with the #SixChangeBlockers we have seen a clear difference between engagement and commitment.
If your employees are not committed to your organization, you will have a hard time succeeding with any change. Lack of Commitment is in fact one of the six change blockers.
What Can You Do to Fix Lack of Commitment?
My third (and final?) book in the Now What?-series: Change is Gridlocked! will have a separate chapter on Commitment including cases, anecdotes, facts, and tips & tricks on what to do.
